Hey guys and girls, just wanted to think all of you for your kind comments and support! Photography is my passion in life and one of my greatest joys is sharing the beauty of nature with all of you. I try and reach as many people as possible but it ain't easy. I recently started a Facebook page for my photography. Just something simple and modest for now. But I do have additional info on prints that may be available. For those of you on FB, feel free to "like" my photography page and even send me a friend request if you like- be awesome to see you guys on there!

Essence of the Central Coast

Thanks again,

Mike

Happy New Year to all my followers and fellow deviants out there!

2011 had been a great year for me. I felt that I would summarize the best of my work from last year and bring them together for their own showcase for you to see and enjoy. In no particular order, they are the Top 10 best photos of mine of 2011! A special thank you to my followers who continue to support me. I look forward to 2012 which no doubt will be an even more special year than the last. Thank you, and Happy New Year.

Hey fellers, have you ever just felt like breaking free of your own particular style and habits? I'm talking about photography here of-course so this may or may not apply to all. It is easy to announce a desire to change or try something new, a different approach and it is hard, very hard indeed to act on these desires and promises. I speak from experience because I myself have announced a self need to branch out and try and shoot from a different perspective. Its a need to grow I feel. When you think you have come to the zenith of your talents you can grow bored or tiresome even with something you love. I grow tired now. The most difficult thing to me when choosing to take a picture of something is deciding on how you frame it. Often you come to the conclusion of the clean composition as follows: a subject in foreground, leading to the center image which is essentially the balance point of everything in your frame, then you have your background subject, which could be the distance coastline or horizon, or a receding mountain range, everything left is just a fill. I'm always drawn to vertical perspectives in landscapes but I never really thought of why. Now, I'm thinking its because I naturally confine myself to think in such small and constructive ways. Which is bad. Thinking small, how are you to ever grow? It will now be something I discipline myself to do when shooting. To broaden your thinking and style can only lead to new doorways of knowledge and growth. It if means, missing a few opportunities then it will be so. I've come to a point where I am bored with my style. Capturing a scene to me is an easier aspect of getting the shot. It will be HOW I capture that scene which will become the main focus after the subject. Thanks for reading, its healthy to get this stuff out of the cobwebs and out of the psyche.

Also...

Incidentally I'm taking a camping trip to Lake Tahoe, USA this weekend with some friends who are also avid photographers. It will be my first time to this beautiful area and I have no idea what I shall come back with. There are a couple points of interest that I will try and shoot at, plus every foot of that wilderness is picturesque. So it will be interesting to see what I end up with. Thanks again, mike.

Greetings!

So I finally sold my car, and with some of the proceeds- plan on upgrading my camera some of my gear. After much research and deliberation and pros and cons and taking many things in account I plan on upgrading to the D5100 from Nikon. It is quite a step forward from my old D40 but I can't wait to give the brand new camera a try! Also I will be upgrading my tri-pod from a namless Memorax brand to a Slik HD500. I plan on upgrading filters as well! Stay tuned! Have a great weekend! -mdv
