Lately I've been favoring the "wider shot", rather than following a simple system of foreground and background. In this photo the closest element besides the water are the mid-ground rocks to the left. I felt very grounded and constricted working in the same guidelines all the time. All scenes are different and should be approached in their own way that is unique to the image. Here I'm going for a more natural view of this moment during sunrise, while placing you knee deep in the oncoming tides. Great experience photographing this from a different approach.
